MU has multiple winners at Lake Michigan Open
KENOSHA, WISCONSIN – The Marquette men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Lake Michigan Open hosted by UW-Parkside Saturday afternoon. It was a successful day for the Golden Eagles claiming victory in 16 events.
"It was a good opening meet for us having a bunch of people winning events and setting personal bests," head coach Bert Rogers said.
On the men's side, Harry Baker, Casey Carlson (1.9 meters/6 feet, 2.75 inches), Simon Werven (1.9 meters/6 feet, 2.75 inches) and Joe Keys (1.9 meters/6 feet, 2.75 inches) claimed the top-four spots in the high jump. Baker claimed first with a PR 2.0 meters /6 feet, 6.75 inches. Keys took home the victory in the pole vault with a mark of 4.35 meters/14 feet, 3.25 inches.
Sophomore Alex Lesperance took the top spot in the long jump with a jump of 6.49 meters/21feet, 3.5 inches.
Vinnie Voudrie and Trey Baskin claimed first and second in the weight throw. Voudrie took first with a throw of 16.59 meters/54 feet, 5.25 inches. Baskin received runner-up honors with a PR of 16.07 meters/52 feet, 8.85 inches.
The MU men found success in the distance events claiming first in the mile and 3000-meter run. Patrick Hetlage finished first in the mile with a PR of 4:24.30 and fellow Golden Eagle Jadon Conroy followed in second with a PR of 4:24.43. Freshman Dan Weizeorick placed first-overall in the 3000-meter run with a PR 8:34.70.
Sophomore Zachariah Murray added to the men's first-place finishes with his victory in the 400-meter with a time of 50.91.
On the women's side, Lindsey Mirkes (1.65 meters/5 feet, 5 inches), Katie Dingle (1.60 meters/5 feet, 3 inches), Annika Bynum (1.60 meters/ 5 feet, 3 inches) and Emma Ludwig (1.55 meters/ 5 feet, 1 inch) swept the top four spots in the high jump.
Senior Allie Flando was able to claim victory in both the weight throw and a shot put. Flando won the weight throw and shot put with throws of 18.24 meters/59 feet, 10.25 inches and 13.75 meters/45 feet, 1.5 inches, respectively. Lizzy Cagle received runner-up honors in both the weight throw (17.25 meters/56 feet, 7.25 inches) and the shot put (12.98 meters/42 feet, 7 inches). Mikayla Wise rounded out the top three spots in the shot put with a throw of 12.51 meters/41 feet, 0.5 inches.
Freshman Kaylee Hopp took first in the triple jump with a distance of 10.94 meters/35 feet, 10.75 inches. Teammate Aja Bradshaw took second place jumping 10.31 meters/33 feet, 10 inches.
Senior Brielle Buechler claimed victory in the pole vault with a mark of 3.4 meters/11 feet, 1.75 inches.
In the 200-meter, Arianna Mansavage finished first at 25.61. Daylee Braden (26.75) and Adelaide Havens (27.24) rounded out the top three spots for the Golden Eagles taking second and third, respectively.
Mallory Lafever found her first collegiate victory in the 3000-meter with a PR 10:42.72. Kendall Pfrimmer followed in second at 10:44.93. Pfrimmer also recieved runner-up honors in the mile with a time of 4:57.72.
Senior Megan Wallace added to the slew of MU victories with a first place finish in the 55-meter Hurdles with a PR of 8.34, No. 8 all-time.
The relay team of Daylee Braden, Emily Noone, Adelaide Havens and Arianna Mansavage took first overall the 4x400-meter relay at 3:59.81.
"Overall it was about what I expected, breaking some of the rust off and getting back in competition mode," Rogers said. "There was a lot of good stuff out there that we can continue to build off of going forward."

The Golden Eagles will be competing in two meets next weekend. The team will be sending members to Grand Valley State to compete in the Bill Clinger Multi, Jan. 28-29, and the John Tierney Invite at UW-Milwaukee, Jan. 29.
