
Track & Field Wraps Up Season Opener

MU track & field completes first December meet in nearly two years
NOTRE DAME, IND. – The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams began the 2021-22 campaign Friday at the Blue and Gold Invite hosted by Notre Dame. Four Golden Eagles won their respective events, 33 set personal records, and four made the all-time top-10 lists.
"This was our first time competing in December and having a full indoor season in almost two years, and getting back into it has been great," head coach Bert Rogers said.
On the men's side, senior Joe Keys started the meet by winning the long jump with a mark of 6.88 meters/22 feet, 7 inches. Keys would also go on to finish fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.36.
Junior Jefferson Osunkwo won the triple jump with a mark of 13.81 meters/45 feet, 3.75 inches, just shy of his personal best.
Junior Vinnie Voudrie threw a distance of 17.18 meters/56 feet, 4.5 inches in the weight throw, placing second overall. Senior Samuel Johnson took third in both the 60-meter (6.94) and the 200-meter (22.29).
On the women's side, the Golden Eagles claimed the top three spots in the triple jump with Molly Evans taking first place with a jump of 11.41 meters/37 feet, 5.25 inches. Freshman Kaylee Hopp claimed runner-up honors with a personal best of 11.29 meters/37 feet, 0.5 inches, and freshman Madison Miller took third place (10.73 meters/35 feet, 2.5 inches).
Senior Lindsey Mirkes won the high jump with a mark of 1.74 meters/5 feet, 8.5 inches, for an indoor personal best and fifth all-time in MU history.
Junior Allie Flando finished runner-up in the weight throw with a personal best 18.15 meters/59 feet, 6.75 inches. Her throw put her at number five all-time in Marquette history. Flando would go on to take fifth in the shot put (12.89m/42 feet, 3.5 inches) behind Lizzy Cagle who would come in third with a mark of 13.41 meters/44 feet.
Brielle Buechler (Pole Vault), and Breanne Marchan (200-meter), and Kendall Pfrimmer (3000-meter) all received runner-up honors in their respective events.
"I'm very proud of the team, we competed very hard and had a lot of great performances. It was a really good way to start the season," Rogers said.

Both the men's and women's teams will be back in action next Friday, Dec. 10 in Chicago for the DePaul Holiday Invite.
