The junior scored his first collegiate goal to win the game
MILWAUKEE – Junior midfielder Zyan Andrade was the hero for the Marquette men's soccer team this time as he scored the game-winning goal with eight seconds left in the first overtime period to lift MU to a 1-0 victory over Saint Louis.
The Golden Eagles (3-0, 0-0 BIG EAST) have won each of their first three games by the score of 1-0 with goals in the first overtime period.
A transfer from the University of San Francisco, Andrade made his first career start for Marquette on Saturday after playing 66 minutes off the bench in his MU debut last Sunday. His goal with the time winding down in the first overtime period was the first of his collegiate career. The left-footed strike came after a scramble in which sophomore defender Alex Mirsberger lofted a ball into the box.
"It feels amazing to be with this team," Andrade said after the game. "We were just really calm, we knew we had a man up. We were just trying to play our game and explore. It was a good ball, they cleared it to me and I was just really blessed to be in that position."Â
The Billikens (2-1, 0-0 A-10) were playing a man down after midfielder Keaton Schieffer picked up two yellow cards in a two minute span in the second half, causing his disqualification from the game.
SLU outshot MU 8-7, but six of the Golden Eagles shots were on goal, including Andrade's goal in the 100th minute.
Lukas Sunesson led MU with three shots (two on goal) while Andrade tallied two shots. Beto Soto and Manuel Cukaj had one shot apiece.
Sophomore goalkeeper Chandler Hallwood (2-0) started his second straight match for MU and played the full 100 minutes, keeping a clean sheet for the third straight game.
