Sophomore cruises past nearly 30-year-old mark
The Marquette University men's and women's track & field teams wrapped up action at the Parkside Triangular #2 on Saturday, highlighted by a school-record performance from sophomore Juru Okwaramoi.
Okwaramoi clocked a time of 8.10 in the 55m hurdles, sprinting past the previous mark of 8.27, set by Chris Spindler in 1993 at the Great Midwest Conference Championships. The Urbandale, Iowa, native broke the nearly 30-year-old record with her first top-10 performance at Marquette in the event.
"It was a solid day and definitely the highlight was Juru's school record," head coach Bert Rogers said. "She has been working very hard and it paid off today and I thought we took a number of big steps forward as a team. We are excited to face two BIG EAST programs next week in DePaul and Butler."
The Golden Eagles collected a number of personal records and event wins on Saturday, continuing the teams' strong performances in the shortened four-meet indoor season. MU will conclude the schedule at DePaul on Feb. 26.
