Golden Eagles post multiple personal records, top-10 performances
The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams completed the indoor season Friday evening at the BIG EAST Triangular, hosted by DePaul at the Gately Indoor Track & Field Complex.
Both teams claimed second at the three-team event with a limited number of participants.
"What a good way to wrap up the indoor season," head coach Bert Rogers said. "We won a bunch of events, notched another school record and had a number of top-10 list marks.
"We competed extremely hard and this is a great stepping stone as we head to the outdoor season," Rogers added.
Individual highlights included a new school record (16-5.5) in the pole vault by Nicholas Quandt, breaking his own record of 16-5.25 set just over a year ago at UW-Milwaukee. Lizzy Cagle collected a personal-best mark of 61-2 to not only win the event, but also record the No. 2 distance in program history. Cagle now owns two of the team's top-10 all-time marks.
Alex Lesperance finished second in the long jump with an effort of 23-3.25, a personal record for him and the No. 9 mark in the program record book. Marquis Ward won the triple jump with an effort of 49-4.5, the No. 3 distance at Marquette and Samuel Johnson finished second at 49-2.25, his personal record and fourth-best at MU.
The Golden Eagles will open the outdoor campaign at Illinois State on April 2-3 in Normal, Illinois.
