Women finish second, men fourth at Illinois State
The Marquette University track & field team opened its 2021 outdoor campaign Friday afternoon at the Redbird Invitational, hosted by Illinois State.
Â
The women's team finished second in the 10-team field, while the men's team collected enough points to earn fourth out of seven programs.
Â
The opening meet provided plenty of highlights, including 15 top-3 placers, four top-10 program marks, three event winners and a pair of freshman records.
Â
"I am very happy to be back competing outdoors," head coach Bert Rogers said. "The team was very excited and it showed in how well it competed today. I was very pleased with the results, which provided a great starting point and we will build off today as the season continues."
Â
Newcomers Julian Wright and Juru Okwaramoi collected freshman records in the 400m (47.97) and 100m hurdles (14.57), both of which are also top-10 program marks.
Â
Kate Jochims continued her strong spring with a new personal mark in the steeplechase (10:44.77) to not only claim the win at ISU, but also sixth-place in Marquette history.Â
Â
Adelaide Havens clocked a time of 1:02.65 in the 400m hurdles, the fifth-best time by a Marquette competitor.
