Golden Eagles conclude action at Miami, EIU
The Marquette University track and field teams wrapped up weekend competition at a pair of events Saturday afternoon, continuing a trend of strong individual performances this spring.
Â
The Golden Eagles were represented at both the Hurricane Alumni Invitational, hosted by Miami, and the Eastern Illinois Big Blue Classic.
Â
Highlights at Miami included a first-place finish by Marin McClowry in the high jump with a height of 5-5.75, her season-best mark. Freshman Julian Wright, competing in just his second outdoor meet, continues to add his name to the top-10 list in the 400m. He clocked a time of 47.24 on Saturday, the second-best effort in school history, and has John Rydeski's 40-year-old top time of 47.13 in his sights.
Â
Samuel Johnson won the long jump with an effort of 24-3.50, his personal best and the fourth-best mark in school history. Madison Marko's day included a trio of career efforts and her own first-place finish in the long jump (19-3.5, 4th at MU).
Â
Junior Joe Keys collected six personal-best marks en route to a first-place finish in the decathlon with a total of 7537, currently the top effort across the NCAA in 2021.
Â
Friday night, Marquette competed in the 10,000m at EIU, with Kendall Pfrimmer collecting MU's top finish on the women's side. Pfrimmer crossed the finish line second with a time of 37:47.79, the first of three-straight Golden Eagle competitors.
Â
