The Marquette University men's basketball team (10-12, 6-10 BIG EAST) takes a late break from BIG EAST play on Wednesday, Feb. 24 when the program travels to North Carolina (14-7, 8-5 ACC) for a non-conference matchup at the Dean E. Smith Center.  ESPN2 will feature the television broadcast, with Rece Davis (play-by-play) and Jon Crispin (analyst) calling the action.  Following Wednesday's outing, the Golden Eagles will remain on the road and head to UConn, the team's first visit to the Huskies for BIG EAST action since 2012-13.
Lone Win Against UNC An Important One
  Â
Marquette has claimed just one victory in its five all-time meetings with North Carolina, but that win came on the biggest stage possible and resulted in the program's lone NCAA championship.
  Â
Legendary head coach Al McGuire directed MU to the national title in 1977, which culminated with a 67-59 win over North Carolina in Atlanta, Ga. Â The game would be McGuire's last as a collegiate coach. Â Butch Lee led Marquette with 19 points and Bo Ellis chipped in 14 points and nine rebounds. Â Walter Davis finished with 20 points for the Tar Heels, who also received 14 points and 11 boards from Mike O'Koren.
  Â
UNC has claimed each of the last four meetings, most recently posting an 81-63 win over Marquette in 2010-11 in the Sweet 16 in Newark, N.J. Marquette's last trip to Chapel Hill came during the 2000-01 campaign.Â
Elliott Makes Most Of Starting Nod
  Â
Marquette's starting lineup at Butler on Feb. 17 featured Greg Elliott for the first time in 2020-21 and the junior guard responded with a career-best performance.
  Â
The Detroit, Michigan, native netted a personal-best 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor, including a 3-of-6 effort from behind the 3-point line. Â He also chipped in six rebounds and a steal in 28 minutes.Â
  Â
Elliott owns six starting assignments in 81 career appearances, with his most recent coming against Jacksonville on Dec. 4, 2019. Â Prior to the game at Butler, Marquette had featured the same starting unit in 18-straight games and has used just three different combinations all season.
