
Lacrosse hosts Providence on Saturday at Valley Fields

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's lacrosse team returns to Valley Fields on Saturday morning against Providence at 11 a.m. Central time.
The game will air live on GoMarquette.com with Patrick Reed and former All-BIG EAST goalie Cole Blazer on the call in Milwaukee. Live statistics will also be available.
The Golden Eagles enter the matchup with the Friars at 0-3 following a 20-13 loss at No. 4 Georgetown on March 6, in which they led early in the third quarter. Ryan Fazio scored a career-high four goals in the loss, while redshirt freshman Devon Cowan posted three goals and an assist. Cowan leads Marquette in both goals (nine) and points (12) this season.
Attackmen Griffin Fleming and Garrett Moya have each registered five assists on the year and Mason Woodward leads the Marquette defense with 18 ground balls and five caused turnovers.
The Golden Eagles began the season with a narrow 10-9 loss to then-No. 9 Denver and fell by a pair of goals to Villanova, 16-14, before the loss to the Hoyas.
Providence sits at 2-4 overall and 1-2 in BIG EAST play after a 1-1 week that featured an 18-17 win over Fairfield and an 11-8 loss to Villanova at home. Ryan Nawrocki leads the Friars with 16 points on five goals and 11 assists, while Dan Axelson and Ryan Zimmerman each have 11 goals.
Marquette is 5-2 all-time against PC but lost the most recent meeting 15-8 on April 13, 2019 in Providence. MU is 3-0 against the Friars in Milwaukee and won the last meeting 12-11 in overtime on April 14, 2018. Marquette scored four goals over the final 1:37 of regulation and won on John Wagner's winner just 14 seconds into extra time. Fleming, then a freshman, scored the equalizer at the final buzzer of regulation.
The Golden Eagles are scheduled to play their lone non-conference game of the year on Wednesday in a St. Patrick's Day matchup with No. 9 Notre Dame at Arlotta Stadium.
