Busy weekend features three matches
The Marquette University men's tennis team (5-4) returns to action with a busy weekend of non-conference matches, both on the road and at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
Â
The Golden Eagles open the trip at Notre Dame (8-7) on Friday, March 19. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m. CT and the matchup will be the first between the two programs since 2013 when they were both members of the BIG EAST Conference.
Â
Marquette returns home on Saturday for a twinbill against Illinois State (6-11). The first match is set to begin at 11 a.m. CT, with the second beginning an hour after the conclusion of the opener.
Â
"It's going to be a busy weekend, but we are thankful for the opportunity to get in as many matches as possible," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "This is weekend is going to provide an opportunity to get a number of guys some matches, providing some valuable experience, especially for the younger players."
Â
Marquette is led by Fran San Andres, who is 6-0 in singles play on the year and has already been named BIG EAST Player of the Week on one occasion. Nikola Kijac and Stefan Dragovic are second on the team with five wins.
