MILWAUKEE -Â The Marquette University women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-13 BIG EAST Conference game to the University of Connecticut on Sunday afternoon at Valley Fields.
Caroline Steller posted five goals to lead the Golden Eagles (3-5, 0-2 BIG EAST), while Megan Menzuber, Madison Kane and Lydia Foust each scored twice. Sophia Leva made four saves in net while playing nearly 34 minutes.
The Huskies (6-2, 2-0 BIG EAST) scored the first two goals and seven of the first eight to build an insurmountable lead midway through the opening half. Steller scored two of her goals in the first 30 minutes and MU entered the half trailing, 10-4.
UConn's Sydney Watson posted a match-high six points on five goals and an assist, while Grace Coon had four goals and two players, Lia LaPrise and Lauren Barry, posted hat tricks. Landyn White notched 10 saves for her sixth win of the year.Â
Sunday's contest was one filled with penalties as the two sides combined for 11 cards with UConn posting seven and four for the Golden Eagles.Â
Despite the 18-13 loss, Marquette out-shot the Huskies, 41-21, and won three more draw controls, 18-15.
