Track & Field Set For BIG EAST Championships

The Marquette University track and field teams are in action this weekend at the 2021 BIG EAST Outdoor Track Championships presented by Jeep on May 14-15, hosted at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Action begins at 10 a.m. CT on Friday morning and concludes Saturday afternoon with the awards ceremony. Marquette will compete in an eight-team field on the men's side, while nine programs will attempt to claim the women's title. UConn makes its return to the event, re-joining the league in 2020-21.

It's been an eventful year and in many ways we are very lucky to be at this point preparing for the championship," head coach Bert Rogers said. "For that, we are all grateful and excited. We have worked very hard to get to this point and we are ready!"

The conference championship was cancelled in 2020 because of Covid-19, with this weekend's action marking the first league outdoor meet since 2019. The Marquette men's team finished second two years ago, with the women's team claiming fourth. Villanova is the defending champion on both sides.

The men's roster features a pair of defending champions. Samuel Johnson claimed the triple jump title in 2019 with a distance of 48-4.5 and Joe Keys earned the decathlon title with a total of 7,112 points.

Attendance
A limited number of tickets will be provided to participating teams at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships. All tickets will be specifically designated for use by the members of each school's official travel party to permit families and guests of student-athletes, coaches, and team staff to attend the championship meet. There will be no public sale of tickets to this year's championship.
