Marquette Opens Season With 2-0 Win Over Green Bay

Golden Eagles host SIUE Sunday at 4:05 p.m. CT
The No. 19/12 Golden Eagles (1-0-0) kicked off their season opener with a win, 2-0, against Green Bay (0-1-0) on Thursday night at Valley Fields.

The Golden Eagles were the first to strike at the 27th minute when freshman Edrey Caceres found redshirt sophomore Harvey Read in the box off a corner kick. Read headed home the service for the first score of the 2021 campaign. Caceras was one of five players to see their first career action for Marquette and one of two (Josh Hewitt) to start.

It was Read's first career goal for the Golden Eagles. MU continued to push through and recorded another goal during the half. Redshirt freshman Jonathan Robinson recorded his first career marker to make the score 2-0 with a long-distance strike after a deflection.

Marquette's defensive unit was just as impressive, holding Green Bay to just one shot for the entire match, which was saved on a diving stop by MU netminder Chandler Hallwood.

The lads will return to action on Sunday August 29 against SIUE at Valley Fields, the game is scheduled to begin at 4:05 PM CT.
