TULSA, Okla. — The No. 13/10 Marquette men's soccer team picked up its first loss of the season, falling 1-0 to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Monday evening.
After 74 minutes of scoreless action, Tulsa was able to break the scoreless draw on a goal by Malik Henry-Scott, who connected on a crossing ball from teammate Ben Barkley. MU stayed resilient, pushing the pace through the final 16 minutes, but came up short as the Golden Hurricane earned its second-consecutive victory over a top-15 opponent.
"We knew coming into the game that they were going to be a tough opposition. They've already done some damage to some good, high-flying teams," said MU head coach Louis Bennett. "I thought at times in the second half we hit a rhythm, but at other times it was difficult because of what they were doing. They're an extremely explosive team, and the goal that they scored was when they caught us on the break. We created chances, but we didn't create enough coordinated chances to put the ball in the back of the net. Obviously it's disappointing to pick up our first loss. We work and we plan to win, and part of the game was not good enough to win today."
Redshirt junior goalkeeper Chandler Hallwood anchored the MU defense with six saves, including five in the first half. Two of his biggest saves came during the 38th minute, when he deflected back-to-back shots off of the same Tulsa player to keep a clean sheet heading into halftime.

The Golden Eagles (3-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) tallied eight total shots from six different players, including three shots on goal, but couldn't keep up with the Tulsa attack which had 17 shots, nine on goal.
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles are back in action Friday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. as they travel to DeKalb, Illinois to face off against the Northern Illinois Huskies (2-1, 0-0 MAC).
