Golden Eagles celebrating 30 seasons with alumni weekend
The Marquette University women's soccer team (6-6-1, 2-3-0 BIG EAST) continues BIG EAST Conference play on Thursday, Oct. 13 when the squad hosts Providence (4-8-1, 2-3-0 BIG EAST) at 7 p.m. CT at Valley Fields.
Following Thursday's outing, the Golden Eagles will host Villanova at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday, Oct. 16.
BIG EAST Season Hits Stretch Run
Marquette is halfway through the BIG EAST campaign and still in the mix for one of six spots in the league's postseason tournament.
Entering play on Thursday, MU is seventh overall, but just four points out of third place. Xavier and Georgetown top the standings with 16 points (5-0-1), but after that tandem there are just four points separating seven teams.
Marquette is looking for its first postseason berth since the 2017 campaign.
MU Enjoys Series Success
The Golden Eagles have had success in both of the all-time series against Providence and Villanova.
Marquette is 11-4-2 in series history versus the Friars, but has dropped each of the last four matchups. Prior to last season's 3-1 defeat on the road, each of the previous three outings had been one-goal decisions.
MU is 10-2-0 against Villanova since the series began in 2006 with the move to the BIG EAST, including a pair of 3-1 victories in 2019 and 2021. After falling behind 1-0 last season, Elsi Twombly, Rachel Johnson and Maggie Starker each found the back of the net in the first half.
News & Notes
The Golden Eagles celebrate their 30th birthday in 2022, welcoming back former players to campus Oct. 13-16 for a reunion.
