
No. 16 Golden Eagles head to No. 21 Creighton and Xavier

The Golden Eagles and Bluejays meet Friday for sole possession of first place in the BIG EAST

MILWAUKEE – The No. 16 Marquette University women's volleyball team heads to Omaha, Nebraska for a Friday night showdown with No. 21 Creighton for sole possession of first place in the BIG EAST Conference standings.
First serve at D.J. Sokol Arena is set for 6:30 p.m. Central time and the match airs live on FloSports with Jon Schriner and Shannon Smolinski on the call.
Following Friday's match in Nebraska, the Golden Eagles will make the trek to Cincinnati for a noon CT matchup with Xavier on Sunday at Cintas Center. The match against the Musketeers will also air live through FloSports.

No. 16 MARQUETTE (15-1, 6-0 BIG EAST): The Golden Eagles are off to their best 16-match start to a season since the program began in 1975 and have won 13-straight contests. MU's lone loss of the campaign came on Sept. 2 at then-No. 6 Wisconsin in four sets.
Marquette began the season with wins over then-No. 11 Kentucky and Ohio in Lexington, Kentucky and won its first road contests in over a month last weekend at St. John's and Seton Hall.
Outside hitter Aubrey Hamilton leads the Golden Eagles with 183 kills (3.27 per set) on the year, while setter Yadhira Anchante has helped MU hit a BIG EAST-best .287. Marquette is also first in the league in kills (14.33), assists (13.16), opponent hitting percentage (.174) and third in service aces (1.67).
Middle blocker Carsen Murray currently leads the league among qualified players in hitting percentage (.415), Anchante is third in assists per frame (10.53) and Murray also ranks first in blocks per set (1.13). Libero Carly Skrabak is fourth in digs per set (4.42).
Outside hitter Jenna Reitsma was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for her role in the sweeps of SJU and SHU. Reitsma led MU in points (4.50 per set) while posting 21 total kills in six sets with five service aces and a pair of blocks. The sophomore ranked second among MU players with 25 digs (4.17 per set). Murray joined Reitsma with weekly honor roll mention after hitting .571 with 2.83 kills per set and six total blocks.
Marquette, which jumped two spots in Monday's AVCA Coaches Poll to No. 16, is 13th in the most recent NCAA RPI rankings. Creighton will mark MU's fourth ranked opponent this season. Along with the win over UK and the loss at UW, the Golden Eagles defeated then-No. 25 Illinois on Sept. 17 at the Al McGuire Center.
No. 21 CREIGHTON (14-3, 6-0 BIG EAST): The Bluejays are led by BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year Norah Sis, who was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Monday and leads CU with 3.91 kills and 4.53 points per set. Sis is hitting .209 and is fourth on the squad in digs (2.55 per set) and service aces (12). Fellow sophomore Kendra Wait leads the CU offense from the setter position with 10.86 assists per frame and Creighton is hitting a combined .255 on the year.
The Bluejays have dropped just three matches this season, against then-No. 16 Kentucky, 3-1, on Sept. 3, and in five sets against both then-No. 2 Nebraska and Rice. CU has won its last six matches since starting league play on Sept. 23 and its only two set losses in that time both came on Friday night at UConn.
In conference action, Sis is averaging 4.00 kills per set on .271 hitting, while freshman outside Ava Martin has hit .405 and is second on the team with 3.26 kills per frame.
SERIES WITH CREIGHTON: The Golden Eagles are just 5-24 against Creighton all-time and lost all three matches to the Bluejays last fall. Since CU joined the BIG EAST for the 2013 campaign, MU is 4-19 against the Bluejays including a pair of wins during that first season, one of which came at MU in the regular season and the other in the 2013 BIG EAST title match in Omaha.
XAVIER (10-6, 3-3 BIG EAST): The Musketeers entered BIG EAST play coming off five-set wins over Miami (Fla.) and Cincinnati but have lost three of their last four matches heading into this weekend. After falling at Creighton on Sept. 28, XU defeated Butler in five sets on Oct. 2 before a pair of four-set losses last weekend at Providence and UConn.
Outside hitter Brooklyn Cink, a transfer from Missouri State, leads the Musketeers with 187 kills (3.12 per set) on .244 hitting. XU sits second in the league in digs per set (16.74), led by libero Lucia Corsaro with 4.28 per frame.
Head coach Christy Pfeffenberger is in her eighth season as Xavier head coach and 13th season at the school overall.
Xavier will face DePaul on Friday before welcoming MU to Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon.
