OMAHA, Nebraska – The No. 16 Marquette University women's volleyball team fell in five sets to No. 21 Creighton on Friday evening at D.J. Sokol Arena.
The Golden Eagles (15-2, 6-1 BIG EAST) captured the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-22, before dropping the final three, 25-19, 25-16, 15-8.
"We had two really good offensive sets, and we knew we would need three," Marquette head coach Ryan Theis said. "We even said going into the week that if they hit a .310 in a set we'd need a .320 and that's exactly what happened in the second. Credit their defense for playing better, but we've got to find ways to score points even against better defenses and have three good offensive sets in a night. And tonight we were stopped at two. That's a credit to Creighton."
Outside hitters Jenna Reitsma and Aubrey Hamilton each led MU with 13 kills, while setter Yadhira Anchante had 47 assists and 16 digs for her team-leading ninth double-double of the year.
"I thought our passers did a really good job getting us looks but we just need a few more kills and a more efficient offense," Theis said.
Sophomore outside hitter Norah Sis led No. 21 Creighton (15-3, 7-0 BIG EAST) with 21 kills, while freshman Ava Martin hit .381 with 18 kills on 42 swings.
