Marquette concludes regular season Oct. 27 vs. Xavier
The Marquette University women's soccer team (7-7-3, 3-4-2 BIG EAST) wrapped up the road portion of its 2022 campaign with a 1-1 draw at St. John's (7-4-6, 4-2-3 BIG EAST) Sunday afternoon in BIG EAST action.
The draw allowed Marquette to remain alive in the hunt for one of six spots in the BIG EAST Tournament entering the regular-season finale Thursday night. The Golden Eagles must defeat Xavier and hope for losses or ties from either UConn or Butler to earn the No. 6 seed.
Trailing 1-0 in the closing moments of regulation, sophomore forward Elsi Twombly was able to volley home a Mia Haertle corner kick from six yards out. The goal tied Twombly with Kate Gibson for the team lead with four scores.
Neither team could get untracked offensively in the first half, as the squad's combined for just four total shots. Unfortunately for Marquette, the lone shot on goal by St. John's found the back of the next for a 1-0 advantage midway through the half.
MU finished with a 10-6 advantage in shots and goalie Chloe Olson finished with a pair of saves.
Marquette concludes the regular season at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday, Oct. 27 when the team hosts Xavier on Senior Night.
