
XC Concludes 2022 BIG EAST Championships

MU to compete in NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Nov. 11
ATTERBORO, Massachusetts – The Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams placed eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 2022 BIG EAST Championships presented by JEEP.
Providence played host to the conference championship meet at the Mark Coogan Course at Highland Park.
Beginning with the women's 6k, Anna Penzkover (22:28) and Kate Jochims (22:57) led Marquette to finish 43rd and 53rd, respectively. This is Penzkover's second time this season finishing first for the Golden Eagles and Jochims has finished in the top-five for MU in all meets she's competed in this season.
Junior Laurel Moneysmith (23:02) finished in 55th place, marking her 5th time placing in the top-five this season for the team. Â Senior captain Emily Noone (56th) Â improved her BIG EAST time from last year (22:17) to 23:13. Â
Sophomore Audrey Grimm capped off MU's top-five in 65th-place.
In the men's 8k race, Sophomore Dan Weizeorick (25:02) paced the MU men finishing 35th overall. Weizeorick improved his time from last year's BIG EAST Championships (26:11) with his finishing time in this year race.
David Zeller (25:24) and Tyler Re (25:43) finished in 37th and 43rd place, both have finished in the top-five for the Golden Eagles four times this season.
Freshmen Sean Kellogg (55th) and junior Cade Ferron (56th) finished consecutively to round out Marquette's top-five runners.
The Georgetown women defended their title as BIG EAST Champions for the third year in a row. Maggie Donahue of Georgetown took second overall individually on the women's side.
The Villanova men finished first at the BIG EAST Cross Country Champions to dethrone Butler after winning two years in a row, Nova's Haftu Strintzos finished second overall in the men's race.Â

MU will have a week off after the BIG EAST Championships before heading to Terre Haute, Indiana for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday, Nov. 11.
