The Marquette University men's basketball team (1-0, 0-0 BIG EAST) wraps up its season-opening two-game homestand on Thursday night at 7 p.m. CT when the squad hosts Central Michigan (0-0, 0-0 MAC) at the Al McGuire Center. Â FS2 features the national television broadcast, with Bob Brainerd (play-by-play) and LaVall Jordan (analyst) calling the action. Â Following Thursday's outing, the Golden Eagles will travel to Purdue on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. CT for a matchup in the annual Gavitt Tipoff Games series between the BIG EAST and Big Ten conferences.
Marquette Stays On Campus To Face CMU
     Â
Thursday's matchup will be a rare home contest for the Golden Eagles on campus at the Al McGuire Center.
  Â
While "the Al" serves as the primary home for the men's and women's basketball teams for practice, sports medicine and sports performance services, all of the program's home games have come at Fiserv Forum since it opened in 2018-19.
  Â
Marquette made a run to the quarterfinals of the 2018 National Invitation Tournament, playing three games at the Al McGuire Center against Harvard, Oregon and Penn State in its most-recent action in the building. Â The last regular-season outing came against Alabama A&M on Dec. 19, 2014, an 83-49 Marquette victory.
  Â
MU is playing the game on campus due to a scheduling conflict with Fiserv Forum and lack of available play dates.
Marquette Claimed Lone Meeting With Chips
     Â
Marquette claimed the lone meeting between the two programs, earning a 91-67 victory on Dec. 2, 2008 at the Bradley Center.
  Â
The 25th-ranked Golden Eagles had four players finish with double figures in points, led by Wesley Matthews' 18 points.Â
Golden Eagles Hold Off Radford In Opener
     Â
Marquette, which opened its 106th season of competition Monday night, improved to 90-16 overall in campaign lidlifters with a 79-69 win over Radford.
  Â
The Golden Eagles had four players finish with double figures in points and led by as many as 21 points in the second half. Â Forward Oso Ighodaro led the way with 19 points, the third time in his career he has topped the roster in points.
  Â
Leading 53-50 with 13:31 left, Marquette used a 16-0 scoring run to pull away, holding the Highlanders scoreless for just over six minutes of game time.
Five Players Make Marquette Debuts
     Â
Marquette's roster features just one scholarship player, forward Oso Ighodaro, who has been with the program more than two seasons. Â As a result, there are plenty of opportunities for the team's five newcomers to contribute in 2022-23.
  Â
Freshmen Ben Gold, Sean Jones and Chase Ross all made their respective MU debuts Monday night, as did transfer Zach Wrightsil and redshirt freshman Keeyan Itejere. Â Ross saw the most extensive action, finishing with seven points in 22 minutes and he was on the court for the squad's 16-0 run midway through the second half.
  Â
Ighodaro played in just five games as a freshman in 2020-21 and missed significant time with an injury. Â Walk-on Michael Kennedy is the team's longest-tenured player, joining the program prior to the 2019-20 campaign.
