#MUBB defeats Creighton In BIG EAST Opener, 69-58

Golden Eagles back in action Dec. 20 at Providence
MILWAUKEE -  The Marquette University men's basketball team (9-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) gained their first conference win against Creighton (6-6, 0-1 BIG EAST), 69-58, to kick off BIG EAST action.
The Golden Eagles were led by junior guard Oso Ighodaro, contributing 16 points and six rebounds. Olivier-Maxence Prosper helped out, scoring 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting to go with six rebounds.
MU shot 45 percent on 27-of-60 shooting. Marquette forced the Blue Jays to turn the ball over 18 times. With tonight's victory, Shaka Smart received his 300th win as a head coach.
Creighton was guided by Frederick King at the center position, King had 14 points and shot 100 percent from field goal range with 10 boards. Baylor Scheierman also played a role, scoring 12 points on 5-of-13 shooting with 11 rebounds.
Notables:
- The Golden Eagles now own a 57-38 advantage in the all-time series. Creighton has one four of the last five outings.
- MU's record when it has the lead at the half increases to 9-1 this season.
- Tyler Kolek now has at least 6 assists in all but one game this season ending the night with seven
- Kolek had four of MU's six steals, his most in his Marquette career.
- David Joplin had 10 points, his most since the Golden Eagles won against Baylor.
- Freshman guard Jake Ciardo saw his first-college action.
- Sophmore guard Stevie Mitchell recorded his first-career dunk.
