The No. 24/25 Marquette University men's basketball team (9-4, 1-1Â BIG EAST) dropped a tough 103-98 double overtime matchup against Providence (10-3, 2-0 BIG EAST) Tuesday night in league action on the road.

Guard Tyler Kolek led the team in scoring with 29 points and guard Kam Jones chipped in 24 points. Kolek's point total marked a collegiate high, surpassing a 19-point effort while at George Mason against UMass on Dec. 30, 2020.
Marquette trailed 88-80 midway through the first overtime, but closed on a 9-1 run to force the second extra session.Â

The Golden Eagles shot 63.6 percent from the floor in the second half and led by as many as nine points midway through the stanza, but saw the Friars close the half on a 13-3 run to force overtime. Freshman Sean Jones had a shot to win the game in regulation, but his 3-pointer from the top of the key came up short.

Marquette trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half, but closed the deficit to just one point, 39-38, at the intermission. MU shot 47.1 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes and Kolek and Kam Jones led the way with 10 points each.

- Rhode Island native Tyler Kolek finished with 29Â points before fouling out, his fourth double-figure game of the year and second in the last three outings.
