MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's lacrosse team heads to Moon Township, Pennsylvania on Saturday for its first road game in a month against Robert Morris at Joe Walton Stadium.
Face-off against the Colonials is slated for 11 a.m. Central time and a live broadcast will air on the Robert Morris Athletics YouTube channel. Live statistics will be available on GoMarquette.com, courtesy of RMUColonials.com.
Following the game in western Pennsylvania, MU returns to Milwaukee for a March 26 game against Air Force and the April 2 BIG EAST Conference opener against Providence.
THE MATCHUP: The Golden Eagles and Colonials will meet for the sixth time on Saturday in a series that began during the 2016 campaign. MU won the first two meetings, but RMU has since taken two of the last three, the most recent of which was an 11-10 victory in Milwaukee during Andrew Stimmel's first season as MU head coach. Stimmel is a native of Pittsburgh, close to the RMU campus.
Previous meetings:
3/12/16 H W, 13-5
3/11/17 A W, 14-7
3/10/18 H L, 12-2
3/12/19 A W, 17-15
3/7/20 H L, 11-10
MARQUETTE (2-4): The Golden Eagles dropped a heart-breaking 11-10 double overtime game to Drexel on March 12 in Milwaukee after surrendering the final four goals of the game. MU out-shot the Dragons, 51-32, won over three times as many face-offs (19-of-25) and held a 42-27 ground ball advantage, but did not score over the final 25:55.
Freshman Bobby O'Grady continued his torrid pace to start the season with his third-straight hat trick combined with his first career assist. Classmate Will Foster added a pair of goals, as did midfielder Chris Kirschner.
All-BIG EAST performers Devon Cowan and Zach Granger are both out indefinitely, alongside attackman Russell Melendez, who was leading MU in points early this season. Freshman attackman Nolan Rappis also went down with a knee injury against Detroit Mercy and is done for the year.
Redshirt freshman goalie Michael Allieri has started all six games and has played all 373:47 in net for MU, while making 61 saves with a .488 save percentage.
Prior to the loss to Drexel, all three of MU's losses had come against teams ranked in the latest USILA Coaches Poll – No. 13 Michigan, No. 15 Jacksonville and No. 20 Utah.
ROBERT MORRIS (2-4): Saturday's game is the third of four-straight home games for the Colonials, who most recently fell to High Point, 13-11, on March 11. Prior to that loss, RMU had won consecutive games against Mercer and Canisius. The Colonials began the season with a 21-12 loss to then-No. 3 Duke and losses to Bucknell and Stony Brook. Clark Taggart leads Robert Morris with 21 goals through six games and is tied with Corson Kealey for the team lead with 26 points. Craig McDonald is in his first season as head coach with the Colonials, replacing Andrew McMinn, who left for Utah over the summer.
