Seven players honored with team award
The Marquette University men's basketball team celebrated its 2021-22 campaign Monday night at the program's annual banquet, held this year at the Italian Community Center.
Over 350 people were in attendance at the event, which included highlight videos, an awards presentation and remarks from first-year head coach Shaka Smart and senior Greg Elliott. Zora Stephenson of the Milwaukee Bucks and NBC Sports served as the emcee.

- Most Valuable Player: Justin Lewis
- Gold Award (top defender): Olivier-Maxence Prosper
- Defensive Champion Award (most deflections - 141): Kur Kuath
- UBUNTU Award: Tyler Kolek
- Academic Excellence Award: Stevie Mitchell & Oso Ighodaro
- Hank Raymonds Sportsmanship Award: Stevie Mitchell
- Father William Kelly Team Morale Award: Kur Kuath
- Dwyane Wade Legacy of Leadership Award: Darryl Morsell
- The Golden Eagles finished 19-13 overall and 11-8 in the BIG EAST, a league that had six teams included in the NCAA tournament field
- Marquette claimed seven-straight league wins, including five against AP Top-25 teams
- For first time in school history, MU claimed three-straight wins against AP Top-25 opponents (Seton Hall, Villanova, Xavier) in consecutive outings during the regular season
- Marquette swept Villanova for the first time since 2011-12
- Of Marquette's 32 games, 12 came (6-6) against teams nationally ranked programs and 14 total versus opponents in the 68-team field
- Forward Justin Lewis (BIG EAST Most Improved Player, All-BIG EAST First Team), Darryl Morsell (All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention) and Kam Jones (BIG EAST All-Freshman Team) were all honored by the league's head coaches
- Guard Tyler Kolek led the BIG EAST in assists with 5.9 per game and his total of 188 was the seventh-best single-season mark in program history
- Forward Kur Kuath finished third in the BIG EAST in blocked shots with 2.5 per contest and his 81 blocks were the fifth-most in a single season at Marquette
- Shaka Smart is the 10th head coach to take Marquette to the NCAA tournament and has now led three programs (VCU, Texas and MU) to a total of nine NCAAs, highlighted by a run to the Final Four with VCU in 2010-11
