Golden Eagles open league tourney play Friday
Marquette University women's tennis players Natalija Popovic and Emilija Kojcic were both honored by the BIG EAST Conference on Wednesday, claiming the league's final weekly awards of the regular season.
Popovic was named the BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week for the third time in 2021-22 and combined with Kojcic to claim BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week.
BIG EAST Female Singles Player of the Week
Natalija Popovic, Marquette, R-Sr. (Cacak, Serbia)
Marquette's Natalija Popovic won a pair of BIG EAST matchups in No. 1 singles play last week. Her first victory came in Friday's 4-3 win over Xavier, as Popovic defeated Xavier's Ahmeir Kyle 0-6, 6-3, 6-2. One day later, the redshirt senior would take down Butler's Natalie Boesing 7-6, 7-6. Popovic improved to 15-4 in dual action in No. 1 singles this season.
BIG EAST Female Doubles Team of the Week
Emilija Kojcic (So., Pancevo, Serbia) and Natalija Popovic (R-Sr., Cacak, Serbia), Marquette
Marquette's Emilija Kojcic and Natalija Popovic picked up a pair of victories in No. 1 doubles action last week. The tandem defeated Ahmeir Kyle/Emily Thomas of Xavier by a score of 6-2 on Friday ahead of defeating Natalie Boesing/Delaney Schurhamer of Butler 6-3 on Saturday.
