Golden Eagles to wrap up home slate against Hoyas

MILWAUKEE — The Marquette women's lacrosse team (7-8, 2-1 BIG EAST) will wrap up the home portion of its 2022 season this weekend as it hosts Georgetown for Senior Day. The Golden Eagles will face the Hoyas (7-7, 2-1 BIG EAST) on Sunday, April 24, at Valley Fields at 12 p.m. (CT). The game will be streamed on YouTube, with links for live video and stats available at GoMarquette.com.
Marquette enters the weekend with a 7-8 overall mark and a 2-1 record in league play as it prepares for what is likely to be an important contest in determining seedings for the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament. Most recently, the Golden Eagles split a pair of home games last week, defeating Butler 24-17 on Saturday before falling to No. 18 Notre Dame 19-10 on Monday. MU has posted a 5-1 record at Valley Fields this year.
With just a pair of BIG EAST games remaining for each team in the league, there is currently a three-way logjam for second between MU, Georgetown and UConn, each team sitting at 2-1. The BIG EAST Tournament will take place May 5-7 in Denver, Colorado.
All-time, the Golden Eagles and the Hoyas have faced off 10 times, Georgetown holding an 8-2 advantage. The teams split last year's meetings in Washington, D.C., Marquette winning the first contest 15-9 before falling in the second game 20-10.
The Hoyas enter the weekend with a 7-7 overall record on the year. Most recently, they fell in a 14-12 decision to Denver at home on April 15. Georgetown has been led this season by senior attacker Ali Diamond, who has totaled 41 points on 23 goals and 18 assists. Graduate midfielder Erin Bakes is the squad's scoring leader with 24 goals on the year. The Hoyas are coached by Ricky Fried, in his 18th year at the head of the program.
SCOUTING THE HOYAS
• Georgetown enters Sunday's contest with a 7-7 mark on the season with a 2-1 record in conference play.
• The Hoyas' two league wins have come against the same opponents as Marquette's, Butler and Villanova. Most recently, they suffered a 14-12 loss at home against Denver on April 15.
• GU has been better on the road than at home this season with a 5-2 mark.
• Senior attacker Ali Diamond has led the Georgetown offense this season while totaling 41 points on 23 goals and 18 assists. Graduate midfielder Erin Bakes is the squad's scoring leader with 24 goals on the year.
• In the net, junior goalkeeper Emily Gaven has started all 14 contests. She holds a 10.99 GAA, making 106 saves on the year.
• The Hoyas lead the league and rank 6th in the NCAA in face-off win percentage at .600. They also rank 7th nationally in clear percentage at .917.
SERIES HISTORY VS GEORGETOWN
• Sunday's matchup will be the 11th all-time between MU and Georgetown.
• The Hoyas lead the series 8-2, though the past four meetings have been split.
• MU and the Hoyas met twice last season in Washington, D.C. Marquette came away with a 15-9 win on April 9 before falling 20-10 on April 11.

RECAPPING THE WEEK
• Marquette split a pair of home games last week, posting a 24-17 win over Butler on Saturday before falling to No. 18 Notre Dame in non-conference play 19-10 on Monday afternoon.
• Against Butler, the Golden Eagles set and tied multiple program records highlighted by its all-time best 24 goals to pick up another important BIG EAST victory.
• MU led from start-to-finish, starting on a 5-1 run and winning the first half 13-4.
• Lydia Foust had career-best marks of nine points on six goals and three assists, while Mary Schumar tied the program's single-game record with seven assists.
• Against Notre Dame on Monday, MU was unable to overcome a slow start as it dropped its first home contest of the year.
• The Golden Eagles won the second half after going down 15-3 at the half as the Fighting Irish dominated the draw early in the contest.

SENIOR DAY SALUTE
• Sunday's contest will mark the final of the season at Valley Fields for Marquette, and for some, the last of their careers.
• MU will honor its eight seniors and two graduate players during a pre-game ceremony on the field.
• Among those being honored are graduates Kyra LaMotte (Winnetka, Ill.) and Amanda Rumsey (Millersville, Md.), and seniors Delaney Friel (Huntington, N.Y.), Lydia Foust (Redwood City, Calif.), Rebecca Cappaert (Chesterfield, Mo.), Ellie Henry (Eden Prairie, Minn.), Lauren Shaw (Flemington, N.J.), Caroline Blandford (Grasonville, Md.), Shea Garcia (Manhasset, N.Y.) and Maria Mulvihill (Hinsdale, Ill.).
HISTORY IS MADE VS BUTLER
• Marquette's 24-17 win over Butler on April 16 will go into the record books as one of top offensive performances in program history.
• The Golden Eagles set program records with 24 goals and 38 points in the outing, while tying program records in assists (14) and shots (47).
• Individually, several records were tested as well. With seven assists, Mary Schumar tied the all-time single game program record, becoming one of three MU players to hit that mark. Lydia Foust fell just one goal and one point shy of tying the program records, finishing with six and nine, respectively.
A TRIO WEEKLY HONORS
• Following Marquette's 24-17 win over Butler last week, a trio Golden Eagles were honored by the BIG EAST for their individual performances.
• Lydia Foust was named the league's Midfielder of the Week after totaling nine points in the contest on a career-high six goals and tying her career-high of three assists. She also recorded a ground ball, a caused turnover and a draw control while not committing any turnovers.
• Meg Bireley was named the league's Freshman of the Week for the second-straight week after totaling five points on three goals and two assists off the bench. She led all BIG EAST freshmen in points while tying for the most goals by a freshman on the week with her second-straight hat trick.
• Mary Schumar was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second time this season after dishing out seven assists in the contest, the most by a BIG EAST player and tied for second among all NCAA players this season. She came just one shy of the league's record as well.
