Track & Field Wrap Up Day One of BIG EAST Outdoor Championships

Day two begins tomorrow at 8 a.m. CT
STORRS, CONN. – The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams conclude day one of the 2022 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships with the men in seventh place and the women in third. Multiple Golden Eagles set personal bests and climbed up the top-10 all-time lists.
"In the events that were finals, we had a lot of good performances and had a number of people qualify through for finals tomorrow," said head coach Bert Rogers. "Overall, I'm very happy with day one and how the team performed and supported one another."
Vinnie Voudrie earned the bronze medal in the hammer throw. Voudrie recorded a mark of 56.57 meters/185 feet, 7 inches.
In the women's javelin, junior Mia Ketelhohn took sixth place recording a PR of 38.80 meters/127 feet, 3 inches. Ketelhohn moves up to No. 7 all-time in school history with her performance.
In the 400 meters, senior Arianna Mansavage took second in her heat with a PR of 55.08 and moves up to No. 4 all time. On the men's side, Zachariah Murray also rolled to a PR finishing in a time of 48.14 to take second in his heat and move up to No. 6 all time. Both Mansavage and Murray will compete in Saturday's 400 meters final.
Mitchell Van Vooren finished first in his heat of the 400-meter hurdles to qualify for the finals. Van Vooren recorded a personal best time of 53.23 to move up to No. 5 on the all-time top-10 list. On the women's side, Adelaide Havens took second place in her heat finishing in a time of 1:04.26 to qualify for tomorrow's finals.
Freshman Dan Weizeorick, competing in the steeplechase for the first time, recorded the ninth-fastest time in MU history with a time of 9:05.70. Weizeorick finished in sixth place.
Freshman Valerie Nzeakor was the top finisher for MU in the women's long jump with a personal best mark of 5.62 meters/18 feet, 5.25 inches to score points for Marquette. Nzeakor surpassed her previous personal best by nearly a whole foot.
In the women's pole vault, all three Golden Eagles that competed in the event scored points for Marquette. Senior Brielle Buechler was the top finisher taking fourth place with a mark of 3.65 meters/11 feet, 11.75 inches. Kaitlyn Huebner and Rachel Seraphine claimed fifth and sixth place by both clearing a height of 3.50 meters/11 feet, 5.75 inches. That mark sets a new personal best for the freshman Huebner.
On day one of the decathlon Simon Werven and Brady Heller competed in the 100 meters, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 meters. Werven recorded personal bests in the shot put (12.12m), high jump (1.93m) and 400 meters (50.95). Werven goes into day two in fifth place with a score of 3565 and Heller in sixth with 3194.
Megan Wallace and Mila Puseljic competed in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 meters during day one of the heptathlon. In the 100-meter hurdles, Wallace ran the 10th fastest time in school history finishing in a time of 14.64. Wallace and Puseljic both ran personal bests in the 200 meters crossing the line in times of 25.16 and 26.32, respectively. Wallace goes into day two in third with a score of 3123 and Puseljic in seventh with 2636.
Day two begins at 8 a.m. CT tomorrow with the men's decathlon 110-meter hurdles. There will be seven field events and 21 track events on day two. The heptathlon will conclude with the final three events, the long jump, javelin and 800 meters. The decathlon will conclude with the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500 meters.
