COLUMBUS, Ohio - Marquette University graduate student Hunter Eichhorn shot an even-par 71 in Wednesday's third and final round of the NCAA Columbus Regional at Ohio State Golf Club's Scarlet Course to tie for 53rd overall.
"It was fun to watch his college career close in typical Hunter fashion, birdies on his last two holes to shoot even par," MU head coach Steve Bailey said. "The impact he has made on our program is immeasurable. He obviously sits atop nearly every statistical category in Marquette history, but more importantly are the intangible ways he helped elevate our program, through his leadership on and off the course. His small-town story is one of the greatest in all of college golf and his legacy at Marquette will never be forgotten."
Eichhorn jumped 10 spots on the final leaderboard on Wednesday and ends his 54 holes at 9-over par (74-77-71–222) with 222 total strokes. The native of Carney, Michigan turned in four birdies on the back nine of his final collegiate event, including a pair on his final two holes, the par-3 17th and the par-4 18th. He came in with a 2-under 33 after begining his round with a 2-over 38 on the front nine with bogeys on Nos. 3 and 9.
He fired a 3-over 74 in his opening round on Monday and followed that up with a 6-over 77 on Tuesday.
Eichhorn, the top-seeded individual in the region, made his fourth appearance in an NCAA regional, becoming the only MU golfer to ever play in four NCAA events.
The top five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional advance to the NCAA Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, from May 27-June 1. Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech, Ohio State, Arkansas and East Tennessee State are the five advancing teams out of the Columbus region, while Oakland University's Thomas Giroux is the advancing individual. Giroux placed third with a 3-under 210.
