Golden Eagles back in action Thursday against WMU
The Marquette University women's soccer team (3-3-1) concluded its two-match road swing with a 3-0 loss at Minnesota (4-3-1) on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.
Â
The loss snapped a run of three matches without a loss for the Golden Eagles, who had claimed a pair of wins and a draw in recent outings.
"Credit to Coach Chastain and her team," head coach Frank Pelaez said. "They are a quality side and I am proud of our team's mental and physical toughness. We have a lot of positives to take away from today's match and look forward to getting back to work."
Â
The Golden Gophers controlled possession throughout the first half and finally moved ahead 1-0 on a penalty kick in the 32nd minute. Marquette's best chance came a short time later on a header by Kate Gibson that just missed sneaking inside the left post. Minnesota quickly reset its attack from the goal kick and was able to move ahead 2-0 in the 34th minute with a long-distance strike from the left side of the box.
Â
Minnesota capped the scoring with a late header off a corner kick. Senior Alex Campana led the Golden Eagles with a pair of shots on goal.
Â
Minneapolis native Chloe Olson made her third-straight start in net for Marquette and finished with four saves.
Â
Marquette returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. CT when the team hosts Western Michigan at Valley Fields in the non-conference finale.
