MU travels to Notre Dame for second meet in a row
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams head to South Bend, Indiana this Friday for the Joe Piane Invite hosted by Notre Dame.
The Golden Eagles will be familiar with Burke Golf Course after seeing it a couple of weeks back at the National Catholic Invite on Sept. 16. Marquette will be competing in the women's gold 5k and the men in the gold 5-mile. The women will race first starting at 12:30 p.m. CT Live timing can be found here.
Teams competing with Marquette and Notre Dame include Akron, Arkansas Tech, Buffalo, Cal Poly, Cleveland St. IUPIO, Milwaukee, Montana State, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, San Diego State, South Alabama, Texas Tech, UC Riverside, Valparaiso, Western Michigan, Green Bay and Youngstown State.Â
Last Time Out
Off from competition last weekend, MU last competed at the National Catholic invite two weeks ago. The MU women finished fourth and the men took sixth.
Junior Kate Jochims paced the MU harriers with a time of 18:17.85 to take seventh overall. Jochims has finished first for Marquette and inside the top 10 in all three meets this season.
Senior Mikaela Sullivan recorded a new collegiate best with a time of 19:57.7 to take 48th overall and fifth for Marquette. Gretchen Pfeiffer also recorded a personal best with a time of 21:14.0.
Laurel Moneysmith (18:37.18), Anna Penzkover (18:45.05), and Audrey Grimm (19:22.36) completed MU's top five finishers.
For the men, Tyler Re finished first for MU for the second meet in a row running a time of 25:51.30. Sophomore's David Zeller and Dan Weizeorick finished second and third for the Golden Eagles with times of 26:29.80 and 26:45.50, reespectively.
Thomas Leonard was the fourth MU runner to finish with a time of 27:18.00 to take 43rd. Junior Jadon Conroy rounded out the top five with a time of 28:03.30 to take 54th place.

The Golden Eagles will compete closer to home at the Lucian Rosa Invitational hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday, Oct. 8.
