MILWAUKEE – Freshman outside hitter Ella Holmstrom posted a career-high 17 kills in her first home match to lead the No. 23 Marquette University women's volleyball team past Loyola Chicago, 3-1, on Tuesday night at the Al McGuire Center.
Holmstrom, who entered the night with four career kills, posted six kills in the second set and eight in the third to go along with four blocks. The Golden Eagles (4-1) also received 15 kills from Aubrey Hamilton and 12 from Ella Foti, while combining for 12 team blocks on the night.
Marquette claimed the opening sets 25-19 and 25-14 before dropping a back-and-forth third set, 29-27. MU closed out the match with a 25-19 final set victory.

NOTABLES:
- The Golden Eagles are 8-1 in home openers under head coach Ryan Theis, with their lone loss coming last season to then-No. 8 Kentucky, the reigning national champions.
- MU last opened its home slate against Loyola with a sweep on Sept. 8, 2017.
- Former conference rivals and fellow Jesuit institutions, Marquette and Loyola had met on 25 previous occasions, most recently in MU's 2017 home opener. Marquette is 12-14 all-time against the Ramblers.
- MU broke free from a 15-15 tie in the opening set to take a 20-15 lead after three-straight service aces from sophomore Jadyn Garrison. Garrison's previous career high was one ace on six occasions.Â
- In addition to Garrison's three aces, MU also received a trio from sophomore outside hitter Jenna Reitsma.
- Carly Skrabak, who entered the match leading the BIG EAST in digs per set (5.00), notched 19.
