The Golden Eagles return to Green Bay for the first time since 2019
MILWAUKEE ā The Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams will be making the trip north this Friday, Sept. 9 to Green Bay for the Phoenix Invitational. The Golden Eagles make their return to Green Bay for the first time since 2019 when both the men's and women's teams took first place in a head-to-head matchup against UW-Green Bay.
The meet will begin at Phoenix Alumni Cross Country Course at 4 p.m. with the women's 6k race and will be followed by the men's 8k.
LAST TIME OUT
The Marquette women are coming off a first-place finish at the Walt Crawford Open at Eastern Illinois. Junior Kate Jochims finished first overall with a time of 18:22.5. The Muskego native's performance earned her weekly honors and was named the BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week in cross country. Jochims returns to Green Bay where she competed in her first-ever collegiate meet and finished second overall back in 2019.
Senior Captain Emily Noone (third) and junior Anna Penzkover (fifth) are both coming off top-five finishes at last Friday's meet. Both Noone and Penzkover recorded 5k personal bests with times of 18:36.5 and 18:40.6, respectively. Laurel Moneysmith finished right behind Penzkover with a time of 18:48.9 to take sixth overall.
Sophomore Audrey Grimm rounded out MU's top five rolling to a 36-second personal best with a time of 19:12.8.
On the men's side, Dan Weizeorick paced the men to a fifth-place finish as a team, taking 19th individually with a time of 26:22.1. Sophomore Tyler Re crossed the line second for the Golden Eagles taking 21st overall with a time of 26:29.8.
Freshman Sean Kellogg (26:58.9), in his first collegiate meet, and sophomore Thomas Leonard (27:00.7) finished behind Re taking 27th and 28th, respectively. Junior Jadon Conroy finished fifth for MU to close out the top five with a time of 27:24.4, finishing 33rd in the event.
Freshmen Ronald Walters, Grant Brawley, Emily Capper, Carol Ludington, and graduate transfer Mikaela Sullivan all made their Marquette debuts.

Next week, the Golden Eagles will head to South Bend, Indiana for the National Catholic Invite hosted by Notre Dame on Friday, Sept. 16.
The MUTFXC Alumni Run returns this season on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Doyne Park at 4 p.m.
