Marquette Facing Xavier For 82nd Time
  Â
Marquette and Xavier will meet for the 82nd time on Sunday morning, continuing a series that spans nearly half of the program's 105-year history.
  Â
The Golden Eagles own a 55-26 overall lead in matchups that date back to the 1958-59 campaign. Â MU dominated the pairings during the Al McGuire and Hank Raymonds era, at one point claiming 26-straight victories between 1969 and 1983.Â
  Â
The programs split the season series in 2021-22, with each team winning on its respective home court. Â In the most recent matchup, Marquette posted a 75-64 win over No. 20 Xavier on Jan. 23, 2022 at Fiserv Forum. Â Kam Jones finished with 12 points in 18 minutes of action off the bench in that decision, one of three players in double figures.
Marquette Rallies To Extend Win Streak
  Â
Marquette trailed by as many as 11 points against UConn in the first half on Wednesday night after a 16-0 run by the Huskies, but used another strong second half to rally for the 82-76 win, the team's second against the nation's No. 6-ranked program (MU downed Baylor, 96-70, at Fiserv Forum on Nov. 29).
  Â
The Golden Eagles are now 8-6 against top-25 programs under head coach Shaka Smart and own 51 all-time victories vs. top-10 teams and 134 wins versus top-25 opponents.
  Â
During its current five-game BIG EAST winning streak, the Golden Eagles are averaging 84.8 points per game and shooting 52.3 percent from the floor. Â Guard Kam Jones and forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper pace the attack at 15.2 points per game and guard Tyler Kolek owns 47 assists and just eight turnovers in 32.0 minutes per night.
