Golden Eagles and Pirates to face off in nationally televised battle
MILWAUKEE — The Marquette women's basketball team (11-7, 4-5 BIG EAST) returns home for back-to-back games, beginning this weekend as it takes on Seton Hall (13-6, 6-3 BIG EAST) on Sunday, Jan. 22. The Golden Eagles and the Pirates will tip-off at 2 p.m. (CT) from the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee. The game will be broadcast on FS1 with Sloane Martin (play-by-play) and Kim Adams (analyst) on the call. Live stream and stat links are available on GoMarquette.com.
In the team's most recent outing on Wednesday evening, Marquette suffered a 66-61 road loss to St. John's at Carnesecca Arena. The senior duo of Jordan King and Chloe Marotta went off to combine for 51 points, but that wasn't enough as MU came up short. The Golden Eagles got off to a sluggish offensive start, then played the majority of the contest from behind. The Red Storm shot 52.2 percent from the floor, while MU was held to 38.5 percent.
The Pirates enter the contest with a 13-6 overall record and a 6-3 mark against BIG EAST foes this season. They are coming off of back-to-back losses, most recently dropping a 103-58 contest to No. 5 UConn at home on Tuesday. Seton Hall is 5-2 in road games this season.
Seton Hall is led statistically this year by guard Lauren Park-Lane, a senior who is averaging team-best marks of 19.5 points and 6.2 assists per game. Graduate forward Sidney Cooks is bringing down a team-best 6.6 rebounds per contest.
Sunday's game will be the 29th all-time between Marquette and Seton Hall, a series which dates back to 2006. The Golden Eagles hold a 17-11 advantage in the series, and the Pirates have never won in Milwaukee. Earlier this year in South Orange, Seton Hall earned an 82-78 win led by a 31-point performance from Lauren Park-Lane.

KING NAMED TO WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
• Following a strong statistical performance in Marquette's 88-57 win over Providence last Saturday, Jordan King was recognized by the league as she was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
• In the win, King went for a career-high 31 points, to go along with five boards, five assists and a pair of steals. She shot 52.2 percent (12-of-23) from the floor.
• This was the seventh Weekly Honor Roll appearance of King's career, and her third of the season.
LA CHAPELL EARNS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK NOD
• After posting one of the best statistical performances of her young career against Providence last Saturday, Emily La Chapell was named as the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
• In the win, La Chapell went for 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting, as well as four assists and three rebounds.
• This is her second Freshman of the Week honor this season.
LAST TIME OUT
• Marquette suffered a road loss to St. John's on Wednesday, falling 66-61.
• Strong scoring performances from the duo of Jordan King and Chloe Marotta weren't enough for Marquette, as the duo combined for 51 points in the loss.
• After getting off to a sluggish offensive start, six first quarter turnovers caused the Golden Eagles to play from behind for the majority of the contest. They were able to fight back and regain the lead midway through the fourth quarter, but the lead was short lived.
• King led all scorers with a game-high 27 points, to go along with six boards, four assists and two steals. Marotta went for a double-double of 24 points and 12 boards.
EARLIER THIS SEASON
• In its first meeting against Seton Hall on Dec. 4, Marquette suffered a 82-78 loss in South Orange at Walsh Gymnasium.
• Despite a career-high 30 point performance from Chloe Marotta, Marquette came up short in what was a tight contest from start to finish. MU allowed a 14-0 run midway through the second quarter and despite making a late surge, was unable to close the gap.
• The Pirates were led by Lauren Park-Lane, who went for 31 points in the contest.
KING ON A HOT STREAK
• While Marquette is playing shorthanded with the absence of third-leading scorer Liza Karlen, Jordan King has taken on much of the offensive load.
• In the four games since Karlen's injury, King is averaging 23.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists while playing 37.3 minutes per contest.
• After averaging 13.2 shots per game in the first 14 outings, she has taken 18.8 in the previous four. She has also seen her shooting efficiency increase during that span, jumping from 41.1 percent (76-of-185) to 45.3 percent (34-of-75).
MAROTTA MAKING HISTORY
• In her fifth and final season as a Golden Eagle, senior forward Chloe Marotta continues to etch her name in the record book in several statistical categories.
• Marotta currently sits just one rebound away from moving into the program's top-10 in career rebounds. She currently has 767, behind Allazia Blockton (2015-19).
• Wednesday's game at St. John's marked her 135th career appearance for MU, as she moved into second all-time in career games played at Marquette. She moved past Angel Robinson (2007-11). The only player who has appeared in more games is her former teammate Lauren Van Kleunen, who played 160.
