Marquette plays at Fiserv Forum in 3-of-4 outings
The Marquette University men's basketball team (12-4, 4-1 BIG EAST) continues BIG EAST play on Saturday, Jan. 7 when the squad hosts Georgetown (5-11, 0-5 BIG EAST) in Fiserv Forum at 1 p.m. CT. Â FS1 features the television broadcast, with Jeff Levering (play-by-play) and Brian Butch (analyst) calling the action. Â Saturday's outing begins a stretch of 3-of-4 games at home for the Golden Eagles and includes matchups with No. 4/5 UConn (Jan. 11) and Providence (Jan. 18).
Marquette Owns Edge In All-Time Series
  Â
Marquette owns a 19-14 advantage in the all-time series, with the Golden Eagles claiming wins in nine of the last 12 outings. Â
 Â
All but two of the series matchups have come since Marquette joined the BIG EAST in 2005-06.
  Â
The programs first met during the 1941-42 campaign and the Hoyas were able to claim a 35-34 victory. Â The next meeting didn't come until the 1971-72 season and Marquette posted an 88-44 winning decision.
  Â
Marquette swept the home-and-home series in 2021-22, earning a 92-64 win on the road on Jan. 7 and a 77-66 decision at Fiserv Forum on Feb. 16.
Prosper, Defense Lead To Win at St. John's
  Â
At halftime of Marquette's game at St. John's Tuesday night, forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper had four points and MU's defense had allowed the Red Storm to shoot 65.6 percent from the floor.
  Â
Fortunately for the Golden Eagles, who trailed 48-41 at the break, Prosper found his groove offensively and MU turned up the effort at the defensive end.
  Â
The Montreal native scored 25 of his 29 points in the second half and finished his 29 minutes of action 8-of-13 from the floor, including a 4-of-5 effort from behind the 3-point line. Â Prosper's point total marked his highest since netting 25 points against NC Central on Dec. 6 and his four treys matched a personal best.
  Â
Marquette opened the second half with a 16-2 run, turning the seven-point deficit into a 57-50 lead with 15 minutes left. Â The Red Storm turned the ball over eight times in the final 20 minutes and shot just 13-of-34 (38.2 percent) from the floor. Â After trailing by as many as 11 in the first half, MU led by 11 midway through the second stanza.
Marquette Collecting Impressive Road Efforts
  Â
Marquette, which claimed four total true road victories in 2021-22, now owns three midway through the 2022-23 campaign after Tuesday night's win at St.John's.
  Â
The Golden Eagles scored 96 points against St. John's, the most allowed in league action at Carnesseca Arena in regulation since it opened in 1961. Â Marquette's 102-94 win at Creighton on Jan. 17, 2017 is the last time MU has netted more than 96 points in regulation action (98 vs. Providence in 2OT this year) against a BIG EAST opponent.
  Â
On Dec. 31, the Golden Eagles claimed a 68-66 win at Villanova. Â The Wildcats have lost just three times (47-3) in BIG EAST play since 2013-14 at Finneran Pavilion, twice to Marquette (W, 57-54 in 2021-22).
  Â
MU also downed Notre Dame 79-64 on Dec. 11 to conclude non-conference play.
Golden Eagles Off To Strong League Start
  Â
In 2021-22, the Golden Eagles began the year 0-3 in BIG EAST play before rattling off seven-straight wins and finishing 11-8 in league action.
  Â
This year, Marquette sits at 4-1 in conference play and in third place through games of Jan. 4. Â The team's start is its best since a 4-1 effort through five games in 2018-19. Â After dropped a New Year's Day matchup at St. John's that season, Marquette won its next eight BIG EAST matchups and 12-of-14 overall.
