Golden Eagles close non-conference portion of season
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's soccer team (7-2-1, 1-2-0 BIG EAST) will play its final  non-conference match on Monday, October 2 as the team hosts Northern Illinois (2-6-0, 0-2-0 MVC) for a 7:05 p.m. CT at Valley Fields.Â
Marquette Drops 1-0 Decision To St. John's
The Golden Eagles suffered their second lost on the season and in BIG EAST play Friday evening after a tough match against the Red Storm of St. John's.Â
The Red Storm found the net late in the 39th minute after Nicholas Fleuriau Chateau snuck a home ball past MU's back line from inside the box. The late first half goal, which served as the game winning goal, gave St. John's a 1-0 advantage going into halftime.
The physicality in the second half  between the two squads resulted in two red cards and one yellow card for the Red Storm and two yellow cards for the Golden Eagles.
Marquette's first shot on goal came in the 56th minute after the Red Storm were booked for their second red card of the night playing with two men down. With St. John's down two players for majority of the second half, Marquette tallied 17 shots and 13 corner kicks but could not find the back of the net.
Marquette Offense Showing Striking Power Â
With 23 goals, MU strung together six-straight wins to open the season, with an offensive attack that ranks top-five in the NCAA DI. Â Â
The Golden Eagles have had no shortage of finding the back of the net this season, scoring a season high of six goals against Detroit Mercy. Ranking at the number five spot in NCAA DI goals scored (23), 11 different players have scored for Marquette this season.

MU has featured depth in the scoring column, three players have scored two goals in three matches for the Golden Eagles. Â
Series History
The series history between Marquette and NIU began during the 1966 campaign. Monday's matchup between the Golden Eagles and the Huskies will be the 31st matchup  in program history for the two squads. MU fell to NIU in the last contest with a 0-3 loss in DeKalb, Illinois. Marquette holds the advantage over NIU in the overall record (17-11-2).
