Golden Eagles take on Blue Demons in BIG EAST Midwest battle
MILWAUKEE -Â The Marquette University men's soccer team (7-5-1, 1-4-0 BIG EAST) will play host to DePaul (2-7-3, 0-4-1 BIG EAST) on Wednesday, October 18 for a 7:05 p.m. CT matchup at Valley Fields.Â
MU Falls to UConn 3-2 in BIG EAST Thriller
Marquette dropped a 3-2 decision to UConn on Saturday  night in Storrs.
Early in the match Jai Hsieh-Bailey found the back of the net with a header for his first career goal in the fifth minute.Â

Despite UConn controlling total minutes of possession in the first half, in the 31st minute Abdoul Karim Pare whose heel flipped assist found Beto Soto for the second MU goal of the match.

In the 43rd minute the Huskies broke through Marquette's backline and found the back of the net to put UConn on the board.

In the 67th minute of the match graduate forward Brooklyn Merl was assessed a straight red card. The Golden Eagles were forced to play a man down for the rest of the match.

Shortly after the red card, the Huskies found the back of the in the 70th minute to knot the score at 2-2.

In the 81st minute UConn scored the game winning goal for the 3-2 advantage.

Marquette comes into Wednesday match ranked fifth in the Midwest standings.Â

This season the top eight teams from both divisions (East and Midwest) will earn a spot in the BIG EAST tournament.Â

The Golden Eagles currently hold three points in conference matches. Depending on other matchups in the Midwest Marquette will need to score valuable points in their last three matches for a BIG EAST tournament birth.Â

The Golden Eagles will take on Akron this Saturday in Akron, Ohio and close the season at home vs. Georgetown on October 28th.Â

The series history between Marquette and DePaul began during the 1982 campaign. Wednesday's matchup between the Golden Eagles and the Blue Demons will be the 39th matchup in program history for the two squads. The last meeting of the two teams resulted in a 0-1 win for DePaul.
