Golden Eagles back in action at UConn
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's soccer team (7-4-1, 1-3-0 BIG EAST) falls to Xavier (6-3-2, 2-2-0 BIG EAST) 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Valley Fields.
Both teams started the match picking their spots on how they wanted to attack. At the 30th minute mark the two teams had combined for just one shot, and zero shots on goal.
The even possessed first half by both squads concluded in a tie at 0-0.
In the 57th minute MU was called for a handball inside of the box on Jai Hsieh-Bailey and Xavier was awarded a penalty kick which resulted in a goal to take a 1-0 lead.
In the 85th Nico Pendleton broke through the Musketeers' backline and finds the back of the net for his first career goal & ties it up at 1-1, the goal was assisted by Brooklyn Merl for his third assist of the season.
In the 90th minute of the match Xavier intercepts Ludvig Målberg's pass and Jerome Jolly scores the game winning goal due to the MU keeper being away from the post.
In the final minutes of the match, MU tried to rally back with another goal of their own with an aggressive attack but were unable to knot the score.
