WASHINGTON – Led by Jenna Reitsma's nine kills, seven digs and a career-high seven service aces, the Marquette University women's volleyball team swept Georgetown, 25-17, 25-15, 25-19, on Friday evening at McDonough Arena.
The Golden Eagles (17-9, 13-2 BIG EAST) posted a combined 11 service aces as fellow outside hitter Aubrey Hamilton and freshman defensive specialist Molly Berezowitz each added a pair. Reitsma hit .353 in the victory, while Ella Foti hit .417 with six kills and seven digs.
"Jenna point-scored at almost 70 percent, as did Yadhi with the point run at the end," Marquette head coach Ryan Theis said following MU's 11th sweep of the season. "Jenna's seven aces are pretty impressive. I thought she was also really efficient offensively and it's the best she's been out of the back row too. So just all-around from her."
Marquette hit .450 and used an 8-1 run midway through an opening set victory to pull ahead 20-12. The Golden Eagles extended their lead throughout the second frame and claimed the final eight points in the third to complete the sweep.Â
Senior middle hitter Anastasija Svetnik was big for MU during the final points of the match as the native of Minsk, Belarus had a hand in four of the final eight points with three blocks and a kill.
"I really liked how engaged our defense was," Theis said. "I thought it was one of our better defensive efforts this season."
Georgetown (13-14, 4-11 BIG EAST) hit a combined .138 and was led by nine kills from Peyton Wilhite.
