
Track and Field Opens Indoor Season at Blue and Gold Invite

Three Join Top Ten Lists, 20 Make Collegiate Debuts
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Marquette track and field teams competed in the first meet of the 2023-24 indoor season on Friday at the Blue and Gold Invite in South Bend.
Three Golden Eagles joined the program top ten lists in their respective events. 20 freshmen made their collegiate debuts in the meet.
"It was a good day of competition," said head coach Bert Rogers. "We had a number of very good performances. I was very happy with how the team competed and supported each other in our first meet of the season."
Julia Beck set a new career-best with a time of 9.07 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, good for 10th all-time in program history. Aaron Hughes in the 60 meters set the ninth-fastest time in program history (6.95 seconds) in his first meet for MU.
Hughes also took second in the 200m with a time of 22.34 seconds.
Kaylee Hopp placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 11.79 meters, good for seventh all-time in program history.
Annika Bynum placed third in the high jump clearing 1.7 meters/5 feet, 7 inches.
John Pitta tied his career-best in the triple jump with a mark of 13.82 meters.
In the field events, Josh Pirogovsky beat his previous PR in the weight throw with a mark of 13.44 meters/44 feet one inch. He also set a new PR in the shot put with a mark of 13.29 meters/43 feet 7.25 inches.

The Golden Eagles will head to Chicago next Friday, Dec. 8, for the DePaul Holiday Invite.
