
Volleyball falls in four at No. 12 Purdue in NCAA Second Round

WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana – Aubrey Hamilton had 22 kills and Hattie Bray had 16 but the Marquette University women's volleyball team fell to No. 12 Purdue, 25-21, 25-23, 24-26, 26-24, on Friday evening at Holloway Gymnasium.
Bray hit .615 (16-0-26) with no hitting errors for the Golden Eagles (21-11), who rebounded to win the third frame and force the fourth into extras.
MU setter Yadhira Anchante had her 14th double-double of the year with 43 assists and 20 digs, while graduate libero Sarah Kushner had 24 digs, six assists and a service ace in her final career match.
Purdue (23-8) hit .274 and was led by a match-best 27 kills from sophomore Eva Hudson. Freshman Chloe Chicoine also had 15 kills and 10 digs for the Boilermakers who advance to the NCAA regional semifinals.

NOTABLE:
- In total, MU is 9-12 all-time in NCAA tournament play since making its debut appearance in 2011 at the University of Illinois.
- Marquette has made seven trips to the second round of the NCAA tournament and advanced to the regional semifinals in both 2018 and 2022 after hosting first and second round matches at the Al McGuire Center.
- Marquette is 5-12 in the tournament away from the Al McGuire Center.
- MU has never beaten a tournament host (0-7) or a member of the Big Ten in tournament play (0-7).
- The Golden Eagles played an NCAA match at Holloway Gymnasium, on the campus of Purdue, for the third time in the last five seasons.
- The Boilermakers have won all five meetings against the Golden Eagles, including a five-set heart-breaker in Lawrence, Kansas on Sept. 1 in the Kansas Invitational.
- The Golden Eagles had match point in the fourth set, 24-21, on Sept. 1 before then-No. 25 Purdue fought off four match points to win the frame, 29-27. The Boilermakers then built an early four-point lead in the fifth and held on for the 17-15 win. MU rallied to tie the fifth at 12 before falling.
- Bray hit .440 (13-2-25) in the first meeting with Purdue.
- Purdue won the previous NCAA tournament meeting with MU in four sets on Dec. 7, 2019, in the NCAA Second Round in West Lafayette.Â
- The first two all-time meetings were five-set Purdue wins, including a match in Lawrence, Kansas on Sept. 13, 2002.Â
