Marquette wins first BIG EAST title since 2012-13
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's basketball team (23-6, 15-3 BIG EAST) clinched a share of the BIG EAST regular season title with a 90-84 victory over the DePaul Blue Demons (9-20, 3-15 BIG EAST). This is Marquette's second BIG EAST title since joining the league.
Guards Kam Jones and Tyler Kolek paced the Golden Eagles scoring 22 points apiece. Kolek recorded his second career double-double (both this season) with 14 assists.
The Blue Demons made a second half surge after trailing by 18 points at the intermission. DePaul outscored MU 56-41 in the second half. The Golden Eagles were able to hold off the Blue Demons to secure the wire-to-wire victory.
The Golden Eagles got out to an early lead and took a 46-28 advantage into the break. MU was fueled by 3-pointers in the first half, shooting 52.4% (11-21) from beyond the arc as a team. Jones led the way with 18 points, making six of the team's 11 first half threes.Â
