Marquette will honor senior Chloe Marotta prior to regular season finale Monday night
MILWAUKEE — The Marquette women's basketball team (19-9, 12-7 BIG EAST) wraps up the regular season portion of its 2022-23 campaign as it hosts DePaul (15-15, 8-11 BIG EAST) on Monday, Feb. 27. The Golden Eagles and the Blue Demons will tip-off at 8 p.m. (CT) from the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee. The game will be broadcast on FS1 with Matt Schumacker (play-by-play) and Meghan McKeown (analyst) on the call. A link to live stats is available on GoMarquette.com.
In the team's most recent outing on Saturday evening, Marquette came up with a win in its road finale, defeating Xavier 58-46 in Cincinnati. In a game which the Golden Eagles never trailed, MU controlled the pace throughout and locked things down on the defensive end led by a 19-point outing from Jordan King. With the win, Marquette secured a top-5 seed and a first round by in the BIG EAST Tournament.
The Blue Demons enter Monday's contest with an even 15-15 overall record and an 8-11 mark in league place to sit seventh in the BIG EAST standings and having secured the 7-seed in the conference tournament. They have dropped back-to-back games to ranked opponents ( Villanova and UConn) by three points apiece.
DePaul is led statistically by sophomore forward Aneesah Morrow, a 2021-22 All-American who ranks fourth in the nation with 25.6 points per game and seventh in the nation with 12.2 rebounds per game. Darrione Rogers leads the squad with 5.1 assists per contest.
DePaul is Marquette's most-played rival, the with Monday's contest being the 84th all-time meeting between the squads. The Blue Demons hold a 49-34 advantage in the series, though Marquette has won four of the past five, including a 72-63 win earlier this season in Chicago on Jan. 4.
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEMONS
• DePaul enters Monday's contest with an even 15-15 overall record and an 8-11 mark in league play to clinch the 7-seed in the BIG EAST Tournament.
• The Blue Demons are 5-7 on the road this season.
• The team has been led statistically by 2021-22 All-American and National Freshman of the Year Aneesah Morrow who ranks fourth in the nation in scoring (25.7) and seventh in rebounding (12.2).
• Junior guard Darrione Rogers averages a team-best 5.1 assists per contest.
• As a team, the Blue Demons lead the conference with 41.1 rebounds per game. They have the highest scoring offense in the league at 77.0 points per game, but allow the most points of any BIG EAST team at 72.1 points per game.
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST DEPAUL
• Monday's meeting will be the 84th all-time between Marquette and DePaul, a series which began in 1978. This is the most-played rivalry in MU's program history.
• DePaul leads the all-time series 49-34, though Marquette has won four of the past five meetings.
• Marquette has won six of its past seven against DePaul in Milwaukee, and defeated the Blue Demons 72-63 earlier this season in Chicago on Jan. 4.

EARLIER THIS SEASON
• Marquette won the first meeting this season against the Blue Demons, earning a 72-63 win in Chicago on Jan. 4.
• In a near start-to-finish victory, MU used its highest scoring first quarter of the season to gain early separation and never looked back. The Golden Eagles held a 46-32 lead at the half, a lead which would eventually expand to as many as 17 points.
• Jordan King had a stellar performance for MU, finishing with a team-high 23 points and a career-high tying nine assists. Chloe Marotta also neared a double-double as she went for 18 points and nine boards, along with four assists and three blocks.
• Playing her hometown of Chicago, Makiyah Williams also brought down nine rebounds, a new career high for the sophomore.
• DePaul was led by Aneesah Morrow, who finished with 24 points and 15 boards.
STARTING FIVE
• The Golden Eagles are 52-23 against BIG EAST opponents under Coach Duffy.
• Coach Duffy is off to the best coaching start through four seasons of any coach in program history. She boasts a 85-35 overall mark (.708) at Marquette.
• The Golden Eagles are 72-3 under Coach Duffy when leading at halftime and 54-8 when they turn the ball over the same or fewer times than their opponent.
• MU is 45-4 when scoring more than 70 points under Coach Duffy and 54-5 when shooting more free throws than its opponent.
• In the 120 games of the Coach Duffy era, the Golden Eagles have out-rebounded their opponent 94 times.
LAST TIME OUT
• Marquette closed out its regular-season road slate in Cincinnati on Saturday night, posting a 58-46 victory over Xavier at the Cintas Center.
• In a game which the Golden Eagles never trailed, MU had three different players score in double-figures led by Jordan King's 19-point showing. Marquette controlled the pace throughout and locked things down on the defensive end.
• After holding a four-point advantage through the first 10 minutes, the Golden Eagles gained separation with a 17-10 second quarter sparked by a run of 13-straight MU points from Liza Karlen. Marquette saw its lead cut seven points early in the fourth quarter, but that's as close as it would get as it closed out to earn the win.
• Along with King's strong performance, Karlen and Chloe Marotta also had big outings, Karlen going for 15 points, eight boards, three steals and two blocks, Marotta going for 12 points, nine rebounds and three assists.
MAROTTA EARNS WEEKLY HONORS
• For the second-straight week, Chloe Marotta was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll following her big performances in a pair of wins last week.
• The senior averaged 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while shooting an efficient 58.6 percent (17-of-29) from the floor.
• At providence, she went for a game-high 26 points and nine boards. She then posted a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds to go along with four assists at St. John's.
• This was her sixth weekly honor of the season.
SENIOR SALUTE
• Prior to Monday's game, Marquette will honor its lone graduating senior, forward Chloe Marotta as part of its Senior Night celebration.
• Marotta, a hometown hero from Mequon, Wisconsin, graduates after a stellar five-year career with her name littered across the program's all-time record book.
• While playing the second-most games of any player in program history (145), she currently ranks eighth in career rebounds with 865, and 32nd in career points with 1,027. She is one of just seven MU players to ever record 1,000 points and 800 rebounds in a career.
• Along with Marotta, Marquette will also honor team managers Jaela Preister and Henry Hace.
TOURNAMENT TIME
• With just one game remaining in the regular season, Marquette's attention will soon shift to the BIG EAST Tournament, which takes place from March 3-6 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
• While Marquette's exact seeding in the tournament is yet to be determined, the Golden Eagles have secured a first-round bye and are guaranteed either the 4 or 5-seed. MU will face St. John's in the 4-seed vs 5-seed game at 1:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, March 5.
• Last year, the Golden Eagles entered the league tournament as a 5-seed, posting a 105-85 win over DePaul in the quarterfinals before falling to eventual tournament champion UConn in the semifinal round.
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE
• The Al McGuire Center has gained a reputation as one of the most difficult places to play not just in the BIG EAST, but in the nation in recent years.
• The Golden Eagles hold a 12-3 record at home this season, and have won 30 of their past 34 games in the Al. Under Coach Duffy, MU has a 46-11 home record.
• In its 12 wins at home this year, Marquette has outscored opponents by a combined total of 860-585 (71.7-48.8).
• Opponents are averaging just 51.0 points per game in the Al McGuire Center this season, with only one opponent scoring more than 62 points. Marquette's opponents at home are shooting just 36.7 percent from the floor, and averaging 17.3 turnovers per game.

• The Golden Eagles travel to Uncasville, Connecticut for the BIG EAST Tournament which will take place March 3-6 at Mohegan Sun Arena. MU's will face St. John's as either the 4-seed or the 5-seed at 1:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, March 5.
