MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's lacrosse team held St. Bonaventure scoreless for the first 20 minutes in a 9-5 victory at Valley Fields on Saturday afternoon.
Defenseman Zach Granger opened the scoring for the Golden Eagles (5-3) midway through the opening quarter and MU tacked on three more scores over the next three-and-a-half minutes. Marquette led 6-1 at the half thanks to a pair of second quarter Bobby O'Grady goals and went up 7-1 on Andrew Bowman's sixth of the year with 6:12 left in the third.Â
O'Grady, who finished with a game-high four goals, added two more markers in the fourth quarter as MU held off a late St. Bonaventure charge featuring a natural hat trick from leading-scorer Jake Rosa.
Marquette posted a 48-29 advantage in shots and picked up 33 ground balls to 20 for the Bonnies (1-8). The two teams each split the afternoon's 18 faceoffs.

NOTABLE:
- Saturday's game was the first matchup between the two programs.
- Defenseman Mason Woodward posted his fourth goal of the season and MU's third of the day in the first quarter. He now has six career goals after entering the season with two.
- MU faceoff specialist Luke Williams won 7-of-12 draws, picked up six ground balls and assisted Woodward's score.
- Freshman defensive midfielder Peter Detwiler picked up a career-high three ground balls.
- O'Grady moved past Tanner Thomson (2015-19) in career goals scored and is now fourth all-time at MU with 68 through 23 career games.
- O'Grady posted his fifth hat trick of the year and fourth game this season with at least four goals. He has nine career games with at least four scores.
- Stegman posted his 15th assist of the year on Bowman's third quarter score and now has the seventh-best single-season assist mark in MU history (15).
- Marquette attackman Jackson Rose is a graduate transfer from St. Bonaventure. Rose posted a team- and conference-leading 40 goals during his final season at SBU in 2022 and was second nationally in shot percentage at .548.
