MU opens BIG EAST tourney play Thursday
The No. 6/6 Marquette University men's basketball team (25-6, 17-3 BIG EAST) wrapped up the 2022-23 regular season with a 96-94Â victory against St. John's (17-14, 6-14 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon at Fiserv Forum.

Prior to Saturday's result, the Golden Eagles had already clinched the BIG EAST regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming league tournament. MU will face the Butler/St. John's winner at 11 a.m. CT on Thursday, March 9 in the quarterfinals at Madison Square Garden.

Kam Jones led five players in double figures with 23 points and guard Tyler Kolek chipped in 18 points and 10Â assists.

Marquette, which led by as many as 19 points in the first half, was up 53-47 at the intermission. MU shot 55.3 percent from the floor, but STJ was able to net 17 second-chance points and finished 10-of-10 from the free throw line.

- Prior to the game, Marquette honored seniors Michael Kennedy and Zach Wrightsil
- Saturday's matchup against St. John's was the program's annual Al's Day, in honor of legendary coach Al McGuire. He played at St. John's and led Marquette to the 1977 national title. Several players from his era at MU (1964-77) were at the game.
- Marquette's attendance of 18,012 is a new Fiserv Forum record
- Marquette's 17 BIG EAST victories tied a league record. Syracuse finished 17-1 in 2011-12.
- Tyler Kolek finished with 18Â points and 10Â assists for his third-straight double-double and fourth of the season
