
Track & Field Heads West for California Meets

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's and women's track & field prepares for west coast trip.
MU will be sending members of the team to three meets this week. A portion of the team will be traveling to California to compete at Long Beach State in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on Thursday, Apr. 13 and the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific on Thursday, Apr. 13 and Friday, Apr. 14. The rest of the team will be at Indiana State competing in the Gibson Invitational on Friday, Apr. 14 and Saturday, Apr. 15.
The Pacific Coast Invitational will begin at 10 a.m. CT on Thursday at Jack Rose Stadium. The meet will begin with the field events, and running events will follow starting at 11 a.m. CT. Live results for the meet will be available through Finished Results.
The first Marquette event at the Bryan Clay Invitational will be at 8:45 p.m. CT on Thursday with the women's steeple chase, and the men's steeplechase will follow. The remainder of MU's events will take place on Friday. A full meet schedule and live results can be found on Finished Results.
Action at Indiana State will begin Thursday with the heptathlon and decathlon. Friday will include day two of the multi-events as well as the hammer throw, javelin and the 5000 meters. The remainder of the events will take place on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. CT. Live results for all three days will be available through Timingmd.
LAST TIME OUT
Last week the Golden Eagles were spread across three meets after the cancelation of the season opener at Illinois State the previous week.
A small group made the trip south to Houston for the Cameron Burrell Alumni Invitational. Mitchell Van Vooren placed first in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.78. Juru Okwaramoi finished second on the women's side with a time of 1:04.70. Annika Bynum placed second in the high jump with a mark of 1.67 meters / 5 feet, 5.75 inches.
Most of the big team competed at Wisconsin Lutheran in the Warrior Invitational. MU had 12 event winners at the meet. Kaylee Hopp recorded the No. 7 mark in program history en route to winning the triple jump with a PR of 11.76 meters / 38 feet, 7 inches. The Marquette throws had a strong performance with Vinnie Voudrie winning the weight throw (51.41 meters / 168 feet, 8 inches), Veronica Walinski taking first in the shot put (13.02 meters / 42 feet, 8.5 inches) and Mia Ketelhohn winning the javelin (36.88 meters / 121 feet).
Adam Schommer, Kaitlyn Huebner and Caleb Venzke went to UW-Whitewater for their first outdoor competion of the year.
Shommer and Venzke both took home victories in their Marquette debuts. Shommer won the pole vault with a clearance of 4.60 meters / 15 feet, 1 inch. Venzke place first in the javelin with a mark of 49 meters / 160 feet, 9 inches.
Huebner finished second in the women's pole vault, clearing the bar at a height of 3.20 meters / 10 feet, 6 inches.
