
Track & Field Concludes Outdoor Opener in St. Louis

Redbird Challenge was canceled due to severe weather
ST. LOUIS, Missouri - The Marquette University track & field distance team concluded the two-day distance carnival at Washington University in St. Louis late Saturday night to open up the 2023 outdoor season.
The remainder of the team was slated to compete at Illinois State on Saturday, but the meet was canceled due to severe weather in the area.
On day one, Mallory Lafever finished sixth in her heat of 10000m with a time of 41:00.02 to open up the season.
Sophomore Gianna Konen was the top finisher for MU in the 5000m with a time of 21:01.67. Tyler Re was the top placer on the men's side taking 41st out of 122 runners with a time of 15:59.71.
On day two, Emily Noone finished fifth in the 1500m, finishing just a couple of seconds off her personal best with a time of 4:36.41. Cade Ferron rolled to a personal best in the men's 1500m with a time of 4:01.04.
Kate Jochims was the top finisher for Marquette in the steeplechase taking 13th with a time of 11:09.34.
Dan Weizeorick rolled to a 28-second PR in the 5000m with a time of 14:29.21 to take 12th. Weizeorick's time ranks eighth all-time in MU history. David Zeller also set a new personal best with a time of 14:35.87, beating his previous mark by 13 seconds.
