
Track & Field Wraps Up Three Meet Week

MU competed at Houston, UW-Whitewater and Wisconsin Lutheran
HOUSTON, Texas - The Marquette University men's and women's track & field team finished up its final of three meets Friday evening at the Cameron Burrell Alumni Invitational.
MU sent representatives from both teams to three meets over the course of three days.
Warrior Invitational
A majority of the team made the short trip over to Wisconsin Lutheran for the Warrior Invitational Thursday afternoon.
"It was a good opener for a lot of the team there," said head coach Bert Rogers. "It was cool and windy day, but we had a lot of people compete well and win events.
Kaylee Hopp took the top spot in the women's triple jump with a personal best mark of 11.76 meters/38 feet, 7 inches, No. 7 all-time. Hopp also placed second in the long jump with a personal best jump of 5.35 meters/17 feet, 6.75 inches.
Freshman John Pitta took second place in both the men's triple jump and high jump. Pitta recorded a personal best mark of 13.51 meters/44 feet, 4 inches in the triple jump. Pitta cleared a height of 1.85 meters/6 feet, 0.85 inches in the high jump.
In the throws, Vinnie Voudrie (51.41 meters/168 feet, 8 inches) and Trey Baskin (47.12 meters/154 feet, 7 feet) claimed the top two spots in the hammer throw. Veronica Walinski (13.02 meters/42 feet, 8.5 inches) and Mikayla Wise (12.52 meters/41 feet, 1 inch) placed first and second in the shot put.
Payton Hanselman took home victories in both the 100m and 200m. Hanselman rolled to a time of 12.85 in the 100m and finished the 200m in 26.66.
Kate Jochims had a strong showing in both the 1500m and 800m. Jochims took first in the 1500m with a time of 4:44.11. She finished third in the 800m with a personal best of 2:22.16.
Other Notables:
- Freshman Carol Ludington won the 400m with a time of 1:03.37
- Gus Kasun finished first in the 400m with a lifetime best of 50.12
- Sophomore Julia Beck was the winner in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.86
- Justin Juniel won the men's 100m with a time of 11.30
- Jared Humphrey won the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.55
- Mia Ketelhohn was the winner of the javelin with a mark of 36.88 meters/121 feet
Cameron Burrell Alumni Invitational
The Golden Eagles took on the rain and the wind during their trip to Houston.
"The meet was definitely affected by the weather, raining pretty much the whole duration of the meet," said Rogers. "We still competed well and had a lot of good stuff to take away from it."
Senior captain Juru Okwaramoi finished second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.70 in her season opener. Mitchell Van Vooren claimed the gold on the men's side with a time of 53.78.
In the high jump, sophomore Annika Bynum took second in her first action of the outdoor season with a mark of 1.67 meters/5 feet, 5.75 inches.
Daylee Braden finished first in her heat of the 400m and sixth overall with a time of 57.47. Julian Wright took fifth on the men's side with a time of 49.66. Braden later went on to clock a PR of 25.17 in the 200m.
Rex Foster Invitational
Adam Schommer, Kaitlyn Huebner, and Caleb Venzke traveled to UW-Whitewater for their first competition of the outdoor campaign.
Huebner placed second with a clearance of 3.20 meters/10 feet, 6 inches. Making his Marquette debut, Schommer took home the victory on the men's side with a mark of 4.60 meters/15 feet, 1 inch.
Venzke, also making his MU debut, placed first in the javelin 49.00 meters/160 feet, 9 inches.
"It was good start for the new comers and I think they will be a good addition to the team," Rogers said.
UP NEXT:
Next week the Golden Eagles will be sending a group west to California for a pair of meets while the rest of the team travels to Indiana State. All the meets will take place from Apr. 13-14.
