
Golf Takes 10th at NCAA Auburn Regional

Lyons ties for best individual regional finish in program history
AUBURN, Ala. – The Marquette University men's golf team finished 10th in the NCAA Auburn Regional to conclude the 2022-23 season.
The Golden Eagles turned in their best round of the tournament with a 3-over par 291 to finish 32-over par (301-304-291--896) for the tournament.
The golfers at Auburn University Club experienced clear skies for most of the day, until approximately 2 p.m. CT when play was suspended due to lightning in the area. Competition resumed at 4 p.m. CT.
Nicolás Evangelio carded a bogey-free 2-under par 70 to lead MU. The First Team All-BIG EAST Selction rolled in his two birdies on the par 4 14th and the par 3 seventh. Evangelio finished 8-over par for the tournament and tied for 37th.
In his first NCAA Regional, Max Lyons was MU's top individual finisher, tying for 17th place. Lyons shot 1-over (73) and 2-over par (74) in the first two rounds, respectively. The Phoenix, Arizona native dropped in two birdies with only one bogey in his final round to shoot 1-under (71) on the day and finish 2-over for the tournament. Lyons ties Mike Van Sickle for the best individual regional finish in program history.
MU's No. 3, Tyler Leach shot a 2-over par 74 on the final day of the Auburn Regional. Leach rolled in a team-best four birdies on the day. He led MU in birdies for the tournament with seven.
Bhoom Sima-Aree shot a 4-over 76 and Josh Robinson finished with a 7-over 79 on the final day.
Auburn won the regional with a team score of 1-under par (863) to advance to the NCAA Men's Golf Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. Vanderbilt, Chattanooga, Ohio State and Colorado State also advanced by finishing in the top five.
