
Van Vooren and Weizeorick Qualify for NCAA West First Round

Van Vooren and Weizeorick make first NCAA West appearance
MILWAUKEE – Marquette University track & field athletes Mitchell Van Vooren and Dan Weizeorick are set to compete in the NCAA West First Round in Sacramento, California. The first round begins Wednesday, May 24 and concludes Saturday, May 27. The meet will be held at Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium.  Â
Athletes who rank among the top-48 in their respective events earned a berth into the NCAA West First Round. The top-12 times or marks in each event from the East and West first round sites will advance to the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas June 7-10.
All-BIG EAST selection, Van Vooren qualified for the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.14. His time is the 47th-ranked time in the region. Van Vooren recorded his qualifying time at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships when he finished third overall. Van Vooren's time is No. 2 in MU history.
Van Vooren is the first MU athlete to qualify for the NCAA First Round in the 400m hurdles.
Weizeorick will compete in the 3000m steeplechase. With a time of 8:53.32, Weizeorick clocked the 41st-ranked time in the west region at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships. His time is No. 2 in MU history and is only three one-hundredths of a second off the school record.
Van Vooren will compete in the 400m hurdles at 10:20 p.m. CT on Wednesday, May 24. Weizeorick will compete on Friday, May 26. The steeplechase will begin at 7:40 p.m. CT and the 400m hurdles will follow at 9:25 p.m. CT. Live results for all NCAA First Round events can be found here. All four days will be streamed on ESPN+.
